Classmates

Welcome to the Classmates section of the website.  We have already created profiles for each classmate with as much information as we had, including a "Then" picture from the yearbook.  Please do not register again!

The only reason to log in is to update your profile.   If you forgot your password, use the Reset Password feature.

1)    If the classmate is also listed in the Memorial Section of this website, there is a notation "deceased" next to their name.

2)    If we have no contact information for the classmate, there is a "missing" next to their name, and they are listed in the Missing Section of this website.  If you have any information on the "missing" please contact either Shayne or Carol.

3)    You are welcome to leave a comment on your profile.

Please note:  The only profile information visible to other classmates is your marital status, occupation and the number of children you have.  No contact information is visible. The contact information is used by the reunion and website committee.  If you’d like to hear from your fellow classmates, check the message me box when you edit your profile. This will allow others to send you a private message through this website.

Comment:
Maybe the easiest way to highlight important events/dates is to use the bullet format, so here goes:

*  In fall of 1964 I entered Chabot College (at that time it was a trailer court tucked in close to old Pacific High School in San Leandro).  In the fall of 1965 the new campus in Hayward opened and I was there for the whole year.

*  Summer of 1966 saw me joining the Navy and going to San Diego for bootcamp.  After basic training and schooling in San Diego, I was sent to NAS Atsugi Japan for two + years working in the Supply Dept.  While there I got to travel to Yokohama, Tokyo and even took a trip to Kyoto and up to the top of Mt. Fuji.

* In early 1967 I was transfered to the USS Bushnell AS-15 (sub tender) home ported in Key West, Fl.  The biggest highlight took place in Aug. 1969 when our ship was visiting New Orleans and Hurricane Camille came ripping up the Mississippi River and slammed into the Louisiana bayou.  Camille was listed as a Cat. 5 hurricane which was mightier than Katrina.  Upon returning to Key West we were ordered to assist in rebuilding Pilots Town at the mouth of the Mississippi.  Turned out that we got invited back to New Orleans the next spring for Mardi Gras.  * After being discharged I returned to Oakland in Spring of 1970 and started back up at Chabot in the fall.  Finished my AA in 1972.  (Who doesn't go four years to a JC?)

*  Married Carolyn Hastey from San Jose in April 1973. We recently celebrated our 41st anniversary. For our 40th we returned to the city where we had our honeymoon, Honolulu.  This time we stayed on the beach at the Hale Koa.

*Started Cal State Hayward in the fall and completed a BS in Recreation in 1975.

*Began a 22+ year run at NAS Alameda working in their Special Services/MWR Dept. as a civilian. The base closed in Aug. 1997 due to down sizing.

*  Adopted our son Charlie at birth  in 1987.  He currently works as a Millwright assigned to Local Chapter 102.

* In the fall of 1997 I began a second career as a substitute teacher in Hayward. My wife was a full time teacher (since retired) and I gave it a try.   I continue to do that today.  I'm readily used in elementary schools as a classroom teacher, music teacher, and PE coach.  My wife also subs for many of her former teacher friends.

*  In Feb. 2010 I had robotic surgery for Prostate Cancer and have been cancer free for more than four years (Praise The Lord).  I will be glad to help anyone (classmate or spouse) who might be going through this problem, just contact me (always kept private so don't fear).

*  We've been active members of Lakeside Baptist Church and First Covenant Church in Oakland since the early '70's.  In fact, I've reassociated with Ed Hultgren, Lynn Jennings, and Cheryl Merrick Hultgren who also have ties to FCC.  I've been associated with the Sanctuary Choir for over 20 years, and am currently assisting with 5th grade Sunday School.

*  My parents celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary in Jan. 2012.  My dad passed away in March of that year, but my Mom lives on at 97 years young. My folks lived in the same house near  Knowland Park for almost 50 years.
